The Hudson River Maritime Museum is an education hub and working waterfront, showcasing a collection of maritime artifacts and vessels, along with a sailing school, woodworking school to teach boat building, a public marina, and a working lighthouse. Like many nonprofits with a wide range of programs, HRMM uses a portfolio of software to pursue their mission, including Neon for fundraising and constituent management, Quickbooks to keep finances in order, FareHarbor to manage bookings on their solar tour boat, and Mailchimp for mass emails.
Giant Rabbit led a comprehensive, organization-wide technical audit and workflow discovery to meet the team, learn about their data and how they use their technologies, and catalog the many opportunities for integration and improvement that inevitably develop when engaged and creative staff pursue independent solutions to day-to-day issues. We then collated an organization-wide worklist, organized by team and priority, and prepared a long-term plan for structural improvements to both address pressing day-to-day challenges and also move the organization toward greater integration and efficiency, to free up staff time for the human work of connecting with visitors and developing programming. We’re currently working through the list of improvements, working closely with affected staff to ensure that every change works for both the individual department and the museum as a whole.
